Throughout the years, there have been many trends in plastic surgery, but none of them have been quite like the latest one, which involves husbands and wives going under the knife together. Is couple’s cosmetic surgery the latest fad, or is it a trend that is likely to become even more popular in the future? Here are some things to consider.
Thirty Percent Increase
Dr. Roy David of the La Jolla Center for Plastic Surgery claims that over the past five years, he has seen more couples coming in together to schedule cosmetic procedures. In fact, Dr. David claims that in that same timeframe, the number of husbands and wives who are choosing to have cosmetic surgery as a couple has increased by as much as 30 percent. The trend has even been reported on by major news outlets such as ABC News and Good Morning America.
Men more Accepting
One of the main reasons why couples are electing to undergo plastic surgery together is that more men are now considering procedures than ever before. In the past, many men were hesitant to talk about cosmetic surgery, believing it to be something that was primarily just for women. The fact that men no longer feel stigmatized about it means they are now more willing to discuss it with their wives should they ever begin contemplating surgery.
Look Good Together
Another reason why couples’ plastic surgery is becoming more popular is because husbands and wives have decided they would like to look good for each other. One partner may begin thinking about how attractive one’s spouse will look after having surgery, and decide that he or she should also look as good as possible. Couples who have been married a long time may view this as a way to put the spark back into their marriage, or wish to gain a new outlook on life once they become empty nesters.
Advantages
The biggest advantage to couples’ plastic surgery is that spouses can better care for and encourage one another. Most couples typically do not undergo surgery at the same time. Instead, one spouse will have surgery and fully recover so that he or she can care for the other partner. This tends to make the process easier for both parties, because husbands and wives can encourage each other, and are also more likely to be sympathetic should the other person experience side effects.
Trends
Even though couples are having surgery together, men and women nonetheless tend to seek out different procedures. Women are more likely to undergo liposuction or a breast lift, while men may choose less invasive procedures such as Botox® injections. However, tummy tucks are one procedure that seems to be equally as attractive to both men and women, since both sexes tend to notice sagging abdominal muscles as they age.
Couples’ plastic surgery is one of the latest trends in the industry, and is likely one that’s here to stay. As cosmetic surgery becomes more socially acceptable, odds are that more couples will elect to undergo procedures together in the future.
