The body sends out signals about health problems in many different ways, whether they are minor, moderate or severe. Sometimes there are skin care products that can help and other times, there is a deeper root cause for skin conditions. Here are some of the most common skin problems and what the skin is typically trying to say.
Acne Around the Chin
Acne is an indicator of many things and where the acne appears has a bearing on the cause. Skin breakouts around the jawline can suggest there’s a hormonal imbalance in the body. People who experience outbreaks around this area of the face should check with their doctor to confirm if this is the cause. In this case, skin care products just aren’t enough to treat the root cause. If it’s not treated, the hormonal imbalance could increase the risk of infertility and developing diabetes.
Other Acne Indications
Breakouts on other areas of the face may suggest that the person has been under a lot of stress. A good way to relieve some of this is by planning a relaxing break, such as a night out with the family or going to a spa. Acne can also indicate that the body is lacking omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. If the breakout is accompanied by hardening or thickening of the skin, the person may have a deficiency of Vitamin A which can be confirmed by a physician.
Dry, Dull, Itchy Skin
Skin that is dry, itchy and/or appears dull can mean a few different things. The first thing to consider is that the skin is trying to say that it’s thirsty. In this case, drinking plenty of water and applying moisturizing skin care products twice a day are the best ways to fix this issue. Another possibility is that the body is lacking omega-3 fatty acids. A lack of this can cause the skin’s natural exfoliation process to slow down, causing the dry, itchy and dull symptoms. Eating foods rich in this nutrient can improve the problem.
Dark Circles Under the Eyes
Some people think that dark circles under their eyes just means that they’re tired. However, this can also indicate an onset of allergies, a sinus infection or cold, as well as a deficiency of iron. While skin care products make dark circles appear lighter and nearly nonexistent, they won’t get rid of these other health issues. In the case of an iron deficiency, taking a low-dose iron supplement can really help. However, it’s always best to get advice from a physician first.
Red and Blotchy Skin
Redness and blotchy patches around the neck and face are typically related to stress or a digestive problem. If the patch is thought to be related to a digestive disorder, avoid spicy foods and increase consumption of probiotics via yogurt or supplements. On a more serious level, a red rash shaped like a butterfly in the middle of a person’s cheeks can suggest the onset of lupus, which should be checked by a doctor.
These are just a few of the things that the body could be trying to indicate or warn a person about through skin conditions. When skin care products don’t work and there’s doubt of what the cause could be, seek advice from a health care provider.
