Millions of cosmetic surgery procedures are performed in the United States each year. Although most of these are carried out in response to the development of a particular characteristic such as wrinkles or droopy eyelids, it has been proven that patients who opt for preventative plastic surgery procedures can delay the aging process for longer than those who only have procedures performed after noticing age-related changes in their physical appearance.
Botox Injections
This is one of the most commonly requested forms of cosmetic surgery, especially when men and women both notice that wrinkles are forming around their facial areas. Although this treatment is excellent when it comes to reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, it has been suggested that patients who have these injections administered before their wrinkles become a lot deeper and more noticeable than ever could very well end up delaying the onset of them for a few more years down the line – in some cases, as long as a decade. Regardless of what age Botox injections are administered at, they do need to be re-administered every six to eight months.
Mini Facelift Procedures
Unlike a regular facelift procedure, a mini facelift is able to provide a significant amount of benefit to patients who are only displaying the very earliest signs of aging such as skin laxity or mild overall facial sagging. Having a mini facelift performed when the earliest signs of aging start making their first appearances will help prevent the onset of other more serious flaws such as droopiness in the neck area, marked jowls, severely sagging neck skin and complete loss of skin elasticity later. An added advantage is that incisions made to perform this procedure are a fair bit smaller than those used when having a regular facelift, which makes it less obvious that surgery has even been performed.
Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion can consist of either a series of chemical peels or various forms of laser treatments, and it is used to help smooth and even out the skin surface on the face. This in turn helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars, wrinkles and age spots. Although older patients with more defined wrinkles or other forms of mild scarring can still benefit from having deeper treatments performed, it is instead recommended that it be carried out before wrinkles or age spots become overly noticeable. This will lessen the risk of infection, scarring or pigmentation occurring, as satisfactory results will still be easily obtained by performing shallower resurfacing treatments at this stage.
Patients who wish to have any form of cosmetic surgery performed need to advise their surgeons if they suffer from any pre-existing medical conditions, as these could affect the outcome of the procedures. When it comes to having any form of preventative cosmetic surgery carried out, most patients can rest assured in knowing that the adage of “prevention is better than cure” will most certainly apply when it comes to opting for preventative surgery.
