Once you have had plastic surgery performed, it is easy to be tempted into reverting back to your previous eating and lifestyle habits. This should not be the case though, as it will now be more important than ever to ensure that you take care of your health in every way possible. There are many ways to incorporate healthy lifestyle habits into your daily post-plastic surgery routine.

Always Obey your Surgeon

Although this is probably the most important advice given to post-plastic surgery candidates, it is usually also the most neglected advice. If your surgeon has recommended that a particular diet be followed, a specific amount of rest be taken after a procedure, post-treatment procedures that need to be followed or that you quit smoking completely; this advice should be strictly adhered to. Failure to do so could result in you having to have the procedure performed a second time, which will not only be extremely costly, but it could place your health in severe jeopardy as well because your body will still be in recovery mode after having the surgery performed the first time.

Follow a Gentle Exercise Routine

It may be tempting to forego all forms of exercise after having surgery, but in most cases, this is not wise. Most plastic or cosmetic surgery takes its toll on the body, which is why it is crucial to only engage in a gentle exercise routine for the first few weeks afterwards. In most cases, walking or a light stretching routine are among the best forms of exercise, as they enable blood to circulate, keep muscles flexible and help flush toxins from the body that may have accumulated as a result of the procedure. If you are on doubt about exercising afterwards, it is strongly recommended that you speak with your surgeon so that a suitable exercise routine can be formulated for you.

Adopt Healthy Lifestyle Changes and Avoid Sun Exposure

After having plastic or cosmetic surgery, you will need to be willing to adopt healthy lifestyle changes such as incorporating more whole and unprocessed foods into your diet, consuming alcohol in moderation and refraining from smoking. Consuming unprocessed foods and drinking pure water each day will enable your body to function optimally, enabling you to retain your new look for as long as possible. As most plastic surgery procedures will also leave you with some form of scarring, it is crucial to keep the scars out of the sun until complete healing has occurred. Failure to do so could result in a lot of pain, discomfort and in some cases, thickening of the scar tissue.

Post-plastic surgery care need not be complicated in any way. In fact, following your surgeon’s orders and taking care of yourself afterwards will help ensure that the recovery period passes as quickly as possible. In most cases, your surgeon will inform you that you will be able to return to your regular exercise or work routine within eight to 12 weeks after having cosmetic surgery performed.
