Versatile, Effective, No Downtime

Dermal fillers can be injected to restore lost facial volume under the eyes, in the temples,   cheeks, and jowls. They can reduce the appearance of nasal bumps in a non-surgical rhinoplasty, soften nasolabial folds and wrinkles around the mouth, and enhance areas such as the cheeks, chin, jaw, and lips. They can even be used as a non-surgical “liquid” facelift to rejuvenate the overall appearance of the face.

At The Spiegel Center in Newton, Massachusetts, we carry a variety of dermal fillers, including Juvederm®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, RHA® Collection, Revanesse Versa®, Sculptra®, and Belotero®. Don’t worry about the differences; our team will help determine which dermal filler is right for you. You’ll get beautiful results from your dermal filler treatment in Boston.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Some injectable fillers are a form of hyaluronic acid, a material found naturally in the body. These products are placed beneath the dermis of the skin to gently fill in unwanted lines and grooves of the face. Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Belotera®, Juvederm®, Revance RHA®, Restylane®, and Prollenium Versa® are perfect to fill in volume loss in the temples, under eyes, cheeks, nasolabial folds, and jowls.

These fillers can also add fullness to the lips, correct nose deformities, fill in marionette lines, accentuate the jaw and chin, and more. Radiesse® is a calcium-based filler that can help with volume loss and increase collagen rejuvenation and is the product of choice for jaw fillers, chin fillers, and even temple and cheek fillers. These fillers typically last a year or more. However, many patients elect to have a “touch-up” treatment 6-8 months after their initial visit to maintain their beautiful results even longer. Mild swelling and bruising are the most common side effects and can last up to a week or longer following treatment.

How Should I Prepare For Dermal Fillers?

To minimize bruising and swelling, we suggest avoiding painkillers such as aspirin and ibuprofen for about 14 days leading up to your filler treatment. Likewise, we recommend avoiding large consumptions of fish or fish oil pills because these are blood thinners and may cause bruising to last longer.

If you happen to be taking beta blockers or any blood-pressure medications, consult your physician to see whether the dosages of any of these medicines need to be altered. You may also consider taking arnica a day or so before your treatment and avoid strenuous activity, including yoga, following your treatment to minimize bruising.

Can Dermal Fillers Help with Under-Eye Hollows or Dark Circles?

Yes, dermal fillers like hyaluronic acid-based fillers can improve the appearance of under-eye hollows, which can contribute to dark circles. The filler adds volume to the hollow area, which helps reduce shadows, making the eyes look more refreshed and awake. However, it’s important to consult with an experienced injector to ensure natural results and minimize potential complications in this delicate area.

Is There an Age Limit for Getting Dermal Fillers?

There is no specific age limit for getting dermal fillers; suitability depends on individual skin needs rather than age alone. People in their 20s and 30s may use fillers for preventive or subtle enhancement, while those in their 40s and beyond may seek them for rejuvenation. A qualified provider will assess your unique skin and facial structure to recommend the most appropriate treatments.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last in Different Areas of the Face?

The longevity of dermal fillers varies depending on the area treated, filler type, and individual metabolism. For instance, fillers in areas with minimal movement, like the cheeks, can last 12-18 months, while fillers around the lips, where there's more movement, typically last 6-9 months. Longevity can vary, so regular maintenance treatments may be needed to sustain the desired results.

Can Dermal Fillers Be Dissolved if I Don’t Like the Results?

Yes, hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This option allows patients to adjust or completely reverse filler effects if they’re unhappy with the outcome. Non-hyaluronic fillers, however, can’t be dissolved, so choosing an experienced injector for all filler types is crucial.

Can Dermal Fillers Be Used in Combination with Other Treatments, Like Botox or Lasers?

Yes, dermal fillers can be safely combined with treatments like Botox and laser therapy, often enhancing overall facial rejuvenation results. Fillers restore lost volume, while Botox smooths dynamic wrinkles. Laser treatments improve skin texture and tone. Combining treatments can provide comprehensive, natural-looking rejuvenation when done by an experienced provider.
