Decades Of Beautiful Results

When it comes to reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, there are few products that rival the natural-looking results that Botulinum (AKA Botox) provides. Botox is a quick and easy injectable treatment that restores a smooth and youthful appearance by ridding the face of lines and wrinkles. At The Spiegel Center, our team of experts reliably offers some of the best Botox results in the Boston Area.

BOTOX Overview

How Does Botox Work?

When you smile, frown, sneeze, or make any other facial expression, muscles in your face contract. Habitual expressions create lines and wrinkles that grow more prominent over time, remaining even while your face is at rest. Botox reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that create them.

Botox belongs to a family of chemicals called neuromodulators that also includes Dysport®, Daxxify®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin®. When injected into the facial muscles, neuromodulators block movement signals sent from the nerves to the muscles, which prevents the muscles from contracting.

Dynamic Wrinkles VS. Static Wrinkles

In youthful skin, proteins called collagen and elastin keep the skin supple, tight, and smooth even after being stretched. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen and elastin; as a result, fine lines and wrinkles develop. There are two main types of wrinkles: static wrinkles and dynamic wrinkles.

Dynamic Wrinkles

Dynamic wrinkles appear when you smile, squint, frown, yawn, or make any sort of facial movement. They form because the underlying muscles stretch and contract. Dynamic wrinkles disappear once you stop the facial movement. Botox is well-suited for reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Common dynamic wrinkles include:

  • Frown line (or the “elevens”)
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • Smile lines
  • Chin wrinkles (AKA orange peel)
  • Platysma bands of the neck

Static Wrinkles

Static wrinkles are always visible, even when the face is at rest. They form as a result of gravity and the reduction of collagen and elastin in the skin as we age. Static wrinkles are inevitable, though good skin care can delay their formation. Dermal fillers are typically used over Botox to correct static wrinkles. This type of wrinkle is often found in the following areas:

  • Undereyes
  • Across the cheeks
  • Nasolabial folds between the nose and the corners of the mouth
  • Marionette lines extending from the corners of the mouth downward
  • Horizontal lines along the neck

The Benefits Of BOTOX®

BOTOX® is FDA-approved to treat dynamic wrinkles, helping your face remain smooth and youthful while you smile or make other facial expressions. BOTOX® can also help prevent static wrinkles from forming, by preventing the skin from being stretched and creased over time.  BOTOX® can safely be used to treat:

Non-Cosmetic Uses for BOTOX

BOTOX is widely known for its cosmetic applications, but it also offers significant therapeutic benefits. It is effective in treating chronic tension and migraine headaches by relaxing the muscles that trigger pain. Additionally, BOTOX can be used for trapezius BOTOX (Barbie BOTOX) to slim the shoulders by reducing the size of the trapezius muscles. For those suffering from bruxism, which involves jaw clenching and teeth grinding, BOTOX injections can alleviate discomfort by relaxing the masseter muscles. These non-cosmetic uses highlight BOTOX's versatility in providing both aesthetic and medical relief. During your consultation, your injection specialist will go over your symptoms to see if BOTOX for non-cosmetic use is right for you.

Baby Botox & MicroBotox

Baby Botox

Baby Botox refers to smaller Botox injections to achieve a more subtle and natural-looking result. It is often used to treat fine lines and wrinkles in younger patients who want to maintain their youthful appearance without looking overdone.

Baby Botox works like regular Botox injections; however, the lower dose ensures the muscles are not entirely paralyzed but slightly relaxed. This results in a more natural-looking appearance, with fewer wrinkles and fine lines, but without the "frozen" look that can sometimes occur with higher doses of Botox. Baby Botox is typically used in areas such as the following:

  • Forehead
  • Crow's feet
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows

    MicroBotox

MicroBotox is a technique that involves using tiny amounts of Botox injections to treat the skin on a more superficial level. This technique is known as "mesobotox" or "skin botox."

Unlike traditional Botox injections in Boston, which are injected into the muscle, MicroBotox is injected into the skin. The injections are delivered using a very fine needle, and the Botox is distributed in a grid-like pattern over the treatment area to treat fine lines and wrinkles.

MicroBotox has many other benefits for the skin, including:

    • Reducing oil production
    • Minimizing pore size
    • Improving skin tone and texture

Because MicroBotox is injected into the skin rather than the muscle, it is considered a more gentle and subtle form of Botox treatment. It is often used in areas such as:

    • Forehead
    • Around the eyes
    • Around the mouth

What to Expect from Your Boston BOTOX Treatment

BOTOX® injections are performed in-office at The Spiegel Center in Newton, Massachusetts. The injection process only takes around 30 minutes to perform. While BOTOX® injections produce little-to-no discomfort, a topical anesthetic can be applied to provide additional comfort. The face will be cleansed and the areas where the injections will be made may be marked.

BOTOX® is a non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment. Little to no downtime is required following your BOTOX® treatment in Boston, and most patients are able to resume their normal activities right away. There may be a small amount of redness as well as some light swelling or a small bruise around the injection sites.

How Should I Prepare For BOTOX® Injections?

As with any injectable treatment, bruising and swelling may occur, and as such, we recommend avoiding painkillers such as aspirin and ibuprofen for two weeks prior to your Botox® treatment. Similarly, we suggest avoiding excessive consumption of fish or fish oil pills because these are blood thinners and may cause bruising to last longer.

If you happen to be taking beta blockers or any blood-pressure medications, consult your physician to see whether the dosages of any of these medicines need to be altered. You can also consider taking arnica a day or so before your treatment and avoid strenuous activity, including yoga, following your treatment to minimize bruising.

      BOTOX® Results

It can take several days before you begin to see the results of your BOTOX® treatment in Boston. After three to five days, the muscles should begin to weaken. More dramatic results should be visible after 10 days or so. BOTOX® is often able to provide results that last for around three months or longer. Routine BOTOX® injections are recommended to maintain your results. BOTOX® is one brand of botulinum neuromodulator that may be used. Others include Dysport®, Daxxify®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin®.

      BOTOX® Cost

Each patient is unique and will have different areas of the face they want to address. The cost of your BOTOX® treatment in Boston will be based on the area, and the amount of BOTOX® needed to reach your desired aesthetic results. Price can be determined during your consultation at The Spiegel Center, where your BOTOX® treatment is curated to achieve your aesthetic goal, rather than “By the unit.”

      Does Botox affect facial expressions?

      Is Botox safe?

Botox is considered safe when administered by a qualified healthcare professional. It is FDA-approved for several cosmetic and medical uses. However, like all medical treatments, it carries some risks and potential side effects.

What are the possible side effects of Botox?

Common side effects include pain at the injection site, swelling, bruising, headache, and temporary eyelid drooping. Rarely, more serious side effects like allergic reactions or muscle weakness in other parts of the body can occur.

      Can men get Botox?

Yes, Botox is suitable for both men and women. An increasing number of men are opting for Botox to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and maintain a youthful appearance.

Can BOTOX® be used to treat migraine headaches?

Yes, BOTOX® is FDA-approved for the prevention of chronic migraines. It is injected into specific areas of the head and neck to help reduce the frequency of migraine episodes by relaxing muscles that may contribute to migraine pain.

How long does it typically take to notice the effects of BOTOX®, and how long do they last?

The effects of BOTOX® typically begin to appear within 3 to 5 days after treatment, with full effects visible at 10 to 14 days. The results usually last between 3 to 4 months, after which the muscle action gradually returns and the lines and wrinkles begin to reappear.

Can BOTOX® be used for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)?

BOTOX® is an effective treatment for hyperhidrosis, particularly in the underarms, hands, feet, and face. It works by blocking the nerves responsible for activating your sweat glands, typically providing relief for about 6 to 12 months depending on the area treated.

Can BOTOX® be reversed if I'm unhappy with the results?

BOTOX® effects are not reversible, but they are temporary. If you are dissatisfied with the results, discuss your concerns with your provider. In some cases, additional BOTOX® can be injected to adjust the results, but typically one must wait for the effects to naturally diminish over time.

      Does Botox affect facial expressions?

When done correctly by a professional, Botox should not drastically alter facial expressions. The goal is to reduce the appearance of wrinkles while maintaining a natural look.
