Many women are eager to have lips that are fuller and thicker. While this was not possible until a decade or so ago, there is now a wide variety of option that can be chosen to enhance the appearance of the lips. Although one of the latest procedures that are fast gaining popularity in this arena is a lip lift procedure, there are a few injectable options available as well.
Lip Lift Procedures
The natural aging process results in the skin situated between the nose and the upper lip lengthening, which makes the lip droop. In order to correct this, a plastic surgeon will place his or her patient under anesthesia before making a tiny incision just under the nose. Once this has been done, he or she will then remove the excess skin that has caused the drooping effect and stitch the area up again afterwards. This results in the upper lip being lifted, which allows the patient to look younger, while also giving the upper lip a more defined and attractive look. Although an incision is made to perform this procedure, the result is barely noticeable on the patient’s face afterwards.
Botox Injections
This is by far one of the most popular options for patients who want to have thicker fuller lips, but who do not want to go under the knife to do so. These injections have been used for many years to help plump up the lips; however, many people forget that the effects of them usually only last a maximum of six to seven months. Patients who are looking for a long-term solution should instead opt for a lip lift procedure. Although the occurrence of Botox parties has become tremendously popular, injections administered at these events are not always performed properly. These injections should only ever be administered by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon.
Other Available Enhancement Injections
Other options for patients who want to enhance the appearance of their lips include Restylane, Collagen, Juvederm and even fat injections that make use of existing fat elsewhere on a patient’s body. While the effects of the Collagen, Juvederm and Restylane may also only last a few months at a time, it has been suggested that the fat injections could offer patients a more permanent solution. There is a certain amount of risk involved with the fat injections in that if the patient happens to gain weight anywhere else on her body; her lips stand a good chance of becoming even more enlarged as the fat cells become larger.
Regardless of which procedure a patient chooses, it is essential that she have it performed by a reputable and experienced plastic or cosmetic surgeon. This will not only ensure that the end results turn out as intended; it will also prevent the possibility of any complications or allergic reactions occurring. Patients who suffer from allergies or existing medical conditions should advise their surgeon before having any of the above mentioned procedures done.
