Age, stress, the sun and a number of other factors can make your face look drawn, gaunt and dull, making you look years older than you actually may be. Topical creams, over the counter prescriptions, tablets and other alternatives can only do so much to improve the look and feel of your facial skin once you cross a certain age.
The external and internal factors are too strong and potent to keep your face looking the same as it did ten years ago.
Well, there’s no need to fret. Say hello to the mini facelift – your face’s best friend when it comes to plastic surgery for your face. There are many different types of facelifts that you can opt for depending on several factors which we will discuss in this article.
What is a Mini Facelift?
There are several different variations of the mini facelift procedure, so you must choose a type of mini facelift depending on factors such as your age, gender, body type, health, and of course how much recovery time you are looking at. Also, the type of mini facelift procedure that you opt for will highly depend on the plastic surgeon you’re speaking to.
In general, however, a mini facelift, unlike a regular facelift, involves making much smaller, less invasive incisions in the facial skin (for this reason, the mini facelift is often referred to as a “short scar”).
Usually, in a mini facelift procedure, just two small incisions are made on the cheeks right in front of the ears. After these incisions have been made by the surgeon, he will lift just the mid-face (that is the area around the cheeks), rather than lifting the entire facial region like in a full facelift.
Also, unlike a full facelift surgery, a mini facelift surgery never involves auxiliary procedures like a neck lift or a brow lift. These are just some of the many reasons why a mini facelift is much preferred over a full facelift. Also, the recovery time is much shorter in a mini facelift than a full facelift.
Are You a Suitable Candidate for a Mini Facelift?
A vast majority of suitable mini facelift candidates fall in the younger category — usually under the age of 45 or 50. This is mainly because people who are still in their 30s and 40s will typically exhibit only mild to moderate facial sagging, making them the perfect mini facelift candidates.
Unlike those over the age of 50, people in their 30s and 40s have not yet developed significant skin laxity/flexibility throughout their face and neck region. Instead, they usually experience very mild skin laxity combined with some amount of sagging and wrinkling of the SMAS also known as the superficial muscular aponeurotic system.
As a final note, it’s important to be aware that you can greatly accentuate the results of a mini facelift surgery by using nonsurgical procedures, which can greatly improve your level of satisfaction post-surgery.
Pairing a mini facelift with injectables like Botox, for example, can ensure that you achieve a smooth forehead to match your new and youthful cheeks. Likewise, dermal fillers can also be used to eliminate any lingering hollows under your eyes or cheeks, fill in fine lines around your mouth, and plump up your lips too!
