Many people find themselves becoming extremely self-conscious about their deepening frown lines as they age. While it may be possible to reduce the appearance of them by means of moisturizers and other skin care products, patients who want to remove frown lines permanently may sometimes have to have cosmetic surgery performed.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal filler injections such as Juvederm or Restylane are able to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in a quick and relatively pain-free manner. These work by subtly filling the lines around the mouth, nose and forehead giving the face a much smoother appearance. There are a number of products in the market and are made of a variety of substances such as collagen, calcium hydroxylapatite, hyaluronic acid gel or Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). The injections are administered in a surgeon’s consulting rooms, making them a quick and convenient form of treatment for frown lines. In many cases, the product contains a numbing agent to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. Patients can expect the results of these treatments to last about 6-24 months.
Botox Injections
Another great option that patients can use to remove frown lines is Botox injections. Over the past few years, Botox has been the most popular non-surgical procedure that has been performed on patients who want results, but who may not be ready or willing to commit to having surgery done. The injections are relatively pain-free, only take a few minutes to administer and patients can expect to see results after three to seven days at the most. Botox is a medicine that softens the muscles around the frown line areas and helps prevent the muscles from contracting, giving the forehead a much smoother appearance. Results of these injections can last as long as four months in some cases.
Skin Resurfacing
Patients who have minor frown lines can have different types of skin resurfacing performed to reduce the appearance of them. These procedures can be in the form of microdermabrasion or laser resurfacing and they work by removing the top layer of skin, which in turn allows healthy new skin cells to develop. A mild local anesthesia may be given beforehand and patients will be able to return to their normal routines within a few days at the most, provided that they stay out of the sun until the skin has healed.
Forehead Lift
Some patients prefer to opt for a more permanent solution to their frown lines and this can be achieved by means of a forehead lift procedure. If desired, the eyebrows can be repositioned at the same time; however, many patients simply want to remove frown lines when having a forehead lift performed. During the procedure, the muscles around the forehead area will be repositioned so that the frown lines are no longer visible, and the results will last for many years instead of just a few months. Patients should remember though, that they will take a bit longer to recover than if they had opted for dermal fillers or Botox.
Regardless of which procedures patients choose to remove frown lines, they should ensure that they are performed by a licensed and reputable cosmetic surgeon. Patients who would like to discuss the various options of frown line removal should not hesitate to schedule a consultation with us today.
