As people age, the skin on their face tends to lose its elasticity, which can result in wrinkles appearing in many different areas. Other factors that cause wrinkles include exposure to environmental toxins, stress, general aging, sickness and repeated muscle contractions. Luckily, there are many different kinds of treatments to reduce wrinkles and roll back the passage of time that has been etched on the face.
Facial Chemical Peels
One of the popular new treatments to reduce wrinkles is called the facial chemical peel. This treatment involves a mild chemical solution over the entire surface of the face. This wrinkle reduction treatment works by peeling off the outer layers of skin that are marked by wrinkles and fine lines. Once this older skin is removed, new layers of younger appearing skin are revealed. This treatment plan is generally considered very safe and effective for fine lines, although deeper wrinkles may require a more inclusive treatment plan.
Dermal Fillers
Some of the deeper wrinkles, such as crow’s feet around the eyes, deep frown lines around the mouth and worry lines between the eye brows may require wrinkle fillers to be used. Over time, the repeated muscle contractions in these areas cause the wrinkles to develop as the skin ages and is less able to snap back into place. Some of the most popular fillers include Juvederm and Restylane. These fillers work by replacing hyaluronic acid that is naturally contained in the skin. These fillers can restore the skin’s volume and elasticity while working towards wrinkle reduction.
Botox Injections
Botox is injected into different areas of the face to relax the muscles that caused the wrinkles to develop. These injections work best to reduce wrinkles that are referred to as dynamic wrinkles. This type of wrinkle deepens when the muscle is contracted. It usually takes between 4 to 7 days for the injections to realize their full effects and the results typically last for three months or so. This means that the injections will need to be repeated for the results to be maintained. However, it also means that if a patient doesn’t like the appearance caused by the Botox, it is not permanent.
Brow Lift
A brow lift is a wrinkle reduction cosmetic surgery done to improve the look of horizontal wrinkles on the forehead. These treatments to reduce wrinkles can also help to lift sagging or lower eyebrows. This procedure can be completed quite quickly with a relatively short recovery period. The stitches from this procedure are completely hidden and the results offer a very natural youthful appearance.
Face and Neck Lift Surgeries
One of the most requested treatments to reduce wrinkles is a face lift. However, not everyone who thinks they need a face lift requires it. Many times, cosmetic doctors can instead perform less intensive procedures, such as mini face lifts or neck lifts, to get the desired results. The decision of what treatment will be right for each individual patient should only be made after consultation with a board certified cosmetic surgeon. A face lift involves raising the skin and underlying muscle as well as tightening the connective tissues that lay beneath the skin. A surgeon will then carefully remove any excess skin and fat to provide a natural and younger looking appearance.
People no longer have to learn to live with their aging reflection in the mirror. There are a number of different procedures that can be done to help them regain a younger, healthier looking appearance and reduce wrinkles while still looking completely natural.
