Although the cosmetic surgery industry is worth billions of dollars every year, many people still find themselves feeling quite apprehensive about the thought of going under the knife to look a little younger. However, these days there are a few other options for men and women who want to look younger, but who don’t want to opt for more invasive plastic surgery procedures. Here are just three of the most popular non-invasive procedures.
1. Botox Injections
These injections are often used to help life the forehead or brow area and they can also be used on the face in areas where fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet have begun to develop. However, they have also been successfully used in patients who want to reduce the appearance of mild wrinkles around the nose and mouth areas as well as in people who would like to lift their eyebrows a little. In some cases, it can also be used to soften the appearance of ‘orange peel skin’ on the face as well as reduce the appearance of unsightly neck bands. Botox injections are not a permanent treatment and therefore, they may need to be re-administered every six to eight months.
2. Chemical Skin Peels
Chemical peel treatments or dermabrasion works by helping to remove the outer layer of skin from the facial area in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and even age spots in some cases. The treatment is applied to the skin, which causes it to blister and peel off, revealing completely new skin underneath. It has been used successfully to help treat patients who suffer from severe scarring as a result of acne and it is also able to help make blemishes, mild scarring and dark patches less visible than before. After having this treatment, your face will be extremely sensitive to sun-exposure, so it is recommended that sunscreen be used for a few weeks after treatment.
3. Soft Tissue Fillers
These include options such as Restylane, Radiesse, Juvederm and Perlane, and are usually injected just under the surface of the skin, which makes results visible almost immediately. Soft tissue fillers are excellent for reducing the appearance of wrinkles, frown lines, laugh lines and the lines that sometimes appear around the lips with age, and they have also been used to help improve the appearance of mildly recessed scars. Although these filler treatments are able to help enhance shallow contours on the face, they may not be as effective as a traditional face lift procedure. However, your cosmetic surgeon will recommend what he or she feels will be best for your appearance.
Each of the above mentioned procedures are by no means a permanent solution for aging in that they normally have to be performed every few months. If a patient has any chemical allergies or suffers from overly sensitive skin, he or she will need to inform the surgeon before having any cosmetic treatments performed.
